Tips for Studying

The most annoying part of a test is the studying and the long, late nights before it. Most likely because you didn’t study for the test the weeks beforehand. I know, this happened to me almost every test up until the end of my junior year. It sucks, but it is entirely up to you if you wanna see results, which seems complicated, but it really isn’t.

Here are some tips to make sure you get the grade you want on your next test!

Tip #1 → Make a plan.

Making a plan for your studying is the most important tip, which is why it is first. Making sure you study everything and start with topics that connect to the ones you will study after them is super important. Make sure you examine the most complex issues a little more and go back to them a bit more frequently, because you want to make sure you know everything, not just your favorite vocab or theories. Plus, it can help you with life; making a plan is super important with everything, whether it’s getting groceries or cleaning your house.

Tip #2 → Start small and end small

This may sound very different if you are used to studying small amounts at first and then cramming for 6 hours before your test day. I am here to tell you that this is not efficient and doesn’t help. As I have gone through pretty much every test topic, I have noticed that if I start small and gradually build up to everything, then reviewing before the test day has many benefits. First, getting the right amount of sleep so your brain can work at maximum capacity is super important. Secondly, it lowers stress levels knowing you can relax the night before. And finally, you actually memorize it better. Cramming before a test is not smart because you will never remember the things you learned the night before.

Tip #3 → Write it down!

I cannot express how much this habit has helped me. It has been proven that writing something down results in better memorization, and it 100% works. My last tip is to write down everything you can in 10 minutes, or whatever is reasonable given the number of topics you have to know. Then, at the end, look at what you could have worked on more, study them, and try again. If you repeat this 3 times before your test, I promise you there’s no way you won’t get the grade you really want.

Next time you figure out your test date, try this out and see if it works for you. Goodluck!
