Meet our Tutors!

2025-2026 Student Leaders

The Skyline Learning Center is a student-run, student-centered program that puts tutors in important decision-making and organizational roles.

Each year, Learning Center students are selected to serve as program leaders to mentor and train tutors, maintain our partnerships, organize the publication of Teen Spirit, lead our social media and marketing, and develop exceptional events, like our International Write-In for Change.

Leaders for 2025-2026: Diego Hurtado-Cardenas, Levi Ogden, JJ Jones, Maddie Clarke, Elena Gery

Leader Statements:

Diego Hurtado-Cardenas: Everyone that’s been through high school knows that there are few spaces where one can be themselves. Safe spaces where one can tell a joke, read their own writing out loud, ask questions, make mistakes, and hide in the snack cabinet without anyone in the room thinking it’s weird. Well, I found one of those spaces and it’s located in the 4th floor next to the Nurse’s office (no it’s not Jobe’s room). I thank the Learning Center for always being a close-knit community that embraces diversity and respect. It is my pride to have a spot here, truly, If I could share advice with anyone, it would be: if you haven’t gone to the center yet, sprint.

Levi Ogden: The Learning Center has very much changed me as a person. I was fairly closed off and introverted my first year here. Like… I didn’t think I would have a huge high school experience. But when I was invited to tutor here in this school, my high school experience changed DRASTICALLY. If it wasn’t for this community, I wouldn’t be so confident and outgoing as I am now. Having a community like this to even just be around is so beneficial, and I really suggest you all take advantage of it! I did, and now I’m cool.

JJ Jones: The learning center isn’t just a place to come get help; it really is a community. I knew that the first time I ever walked into that room, it was where I needed to be. And I’m here now. I have experienced what it’s like to connect with so many people, through the laughter and through the tears. Yet, there are no words to describe how much change the learning center has brought to our community. I am forever grateful and I hope that more and more students will experience it too.

Maddie Clarke: I love being apart of the learning center because of the new perspectives it brings me. Tutoring students from all different walks of life has taught me to be adaptable and open minded. Everybody comes into the center with different funds of knowledge, and sharing these allows me to make stronger connections with my peers.

Elena Gery: I joined the learning center my junior year and I have never been happier with a decision. The learning center has allowed me to grow so much as a person. Not only have I learned more about tutoring but I also learned how to step out of my comfort zone. But my favorite part of the Learning Center will always be the community here. I have truly met some of the most amazing people in this space and I am so excited to work with everyone again this year!

Learning Center Houses

The Learning Center’s House system is a tiered mentoring system designed to create a more personalized climate for tutors in the Writing Center so that they can use their voice, find a home, and receive individual feedback and mentoring.  Each of our student leaders mentors a group of 8-10 of their Learning Center peers throughout the year to help Learning Center feel like a team and to ensure that all tutors can be at their very best while collaborating with their classmates.
