- I have always loved baking and found it calming, but I didn’t realize until high school that it could be such a social activity. It started with inviting over a friend or two to make cookies for an event, but then I started using social media and recipe books to brainstorm; I now use it as a fun way to spend time with my friends and catch up while having something to do with our hands.
- Baking is my main outlet for my creativity. When it comes to most hobbies and crafts, I struggle to relax and let go of perfectionism, resulting in me being more frustrated and stressed than when I began. However, when I’m baking I feel like I’m able to go with the flow and let go of it more. Instead of planning every little detail and following a plan, I improvise and just add as much color as possible. I do this with sprinkles, colorful frosting, and try to think of new designs based on other interests of mine.
- The products that I make when baking can be shared with everyone around me. I have brought cookies and cupcakes to lunch for my friends, made cakes for family members’ birthdays, and love the feeling of my hard work being admired and appreciated.
- One hundred percent of my focus can be occupied while I’m baking. Although I love to multitask with friends or listen to music, if there is something that I need to completely take my mind off of, baking is one of the only ways that I can do that. This is extremely helpful as an anxious high school student and I think that everyone has tests or days where they get done and just need a break.
